Antony Weru Wachira, a renowned entrepreneur from Mweiga, Nyeri county, who predicted his death on Facebook, has been laid to rest.

The farmer, popularly known as Tony Weru, succumbed to COVID-19 on Tuesday, March 30, hours after posting on the Digital Farmers Facebook group that he was 'leaving'.

According to the group administrator, the deceased was interred at his home on Saturday, April 3.

The 55-year-old was survived by his wife Lydia Wamuyu and four children.

He was an engineer with a high diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, but he had ventured into agribusiness until his death.

Sickness

Weru reportedly left his home on Tuesday, March 30, around 9.30 am, to go about his business.

He later felt uncomfortable and went to seek medical attention at the Mugururu dispensary located in Mweiga.

His condition deteriorated and he was rushed to Nyeri Provincial General Hospital after developing breathing problems, where they put him on oxygen.

By midnight on the same day, he was pronounced dead.

Posting on Facebook

On the evening of the same day, he took to the farmers' Facebook group, saying he had tested positive for COVID-19 but didn't know where he contracted it.

"COVID-19 is real, if I die, I don't know where I contracted it," he posted.

Moments later, he also posted in the same group, bidding goodbye to the users.

"I'm leaving you through COVID-19," he said, sharing a photo of himself wearing a face mask with a seemingly sweaty face.

In the group, which has approximately 430,000 members, the deceased was known for his strawberry farming and beekeeping expertise.
